Becton Dickinson Pledges $19 Billion Investment to Expand U.S. Medical Manufacturing
October 6, 2026
Becton Dickinson (BD), a major global medical technology company, has announced plans to invest $19 billion in the United States over several years as part of an agreement with the U.S. government.
According to Reuters, approximately $3 billion of the planned investment will be directed toward expanding strategic manufacturing facilities across the country. The company aims to increase annual domestic production by approximately five billion essential medical consumables, raising the share of its products supplied from U.S. facilities to around 80%.
The initiative also includes plans to manufacture all needles used in the United States domestically using American-made steel.
This development highlights the growing importance of domestic manufacturing capacity, supply chain resilience, and reliable access to essential medical products. For healthcare providers and medical supply distributors, changes in manufacturing capacity and sourcing strategies remain important factors in long-term procurement planning.
